My Irish Granny didn’t go into town for her shopping, she went for her ‘messages’. Here is the sort of practical but pretty bag that she would have found very useful for carrying all those messages home, although mine is more likely to hold a sewing project and a snack or two!

Using this clever sewing pattern you can make this classic, simple tote bag, which is fully lined with interior patch pockets and has long strong handles. Four fat quarters are all you need to piece the outside of the bag. Add some lining fabric and handles (I’ve included instructions to make these or you can buy some), you will soon be taking yourself and your posh new bag on a little jaunt to the quilt shop for lots of pretty messages!

The detailed full colour pattern includes step by step instructions and lots of close up photographs to show how to piece the bag, add lining, pockets and make and attach your handles.

The finished bag measures 16” x 16”.
