Sewing Street and the Gemporia Craft family are proud to support the following charities. They are charities that support causes close to our hearts. You can find out more about the work each of them do below as well as how we are supporting them and how you can too.

The patterns in our Charity Patterns section have been donated to us from the designers who created them and all proceeds go to our chosen charity of the month.

MENTAL HEALTH UK

Sewing, knitting, embroidery (we could go on!) are so good for your mental health, promoting mindfulness as well as that sense of achievement. And Mental Health UK are a great organisation that offers tools to support your mental health. They also have some great information on how to navigate menopause and how that affects our mental health.

In October 2024, a group from Gemporia Craft walked 20km in London as part of Mental Health UK’s Glow Walk, raising just under £1,500 for the charity. They’re keen to do it again so keep your eyes peeled on our social channels to find out how you can help support us and Mental Health UK.

The team also ran a stand where walkers could make stretchy bracelets before the walk.

THE NIGHTINGALE SUPPORT CANCER SUPPORT CENTRE

The Nightingale Cancer Support Centre, based in Enfield, offer a range of services for patients who have received a cancer diagnosis and their families. Their Stitches for Support initiative is a community project that uses knitted squares from the public to create blankets for people going through active cancer treatment. The blankets act as a reminder that people aren’t going through this journey alone.

The team of knitters at The Nightingale Cancer Support Centre have even designed a knitting pattern exclusively for Sewing Street that can act as one of the squares. You can get yours here - all proceeds of the sale of this pattern go to The Nightingale Cancer Support Centre.

In October 2024 we raised money for The Nightingale Cancer Support Centre with our tombola at the Creative Craft show at the NEC in Birmingham. Did you see our fantastic stand built by Quadrant2Design.

SUE RYDER

Sue Ryder offer support for people nearing the end of their life as well as those living with grief. They offer a range of services and actively campaign for more support UK wide.

You may have seen one of their shops on your high street!

HobbyMaker’s Cardmaker of the Year 2024 competition was inundated with cards, with people sending in multiple cards with the knowledge that even if they didn’t win, their cards would go to a Sue Ryder shop to be sold to raise money for the charity. We had over 300 cards to send!
